Treatments we offer

Teeth whitening. An in-office whitening session at our Sylvania Avenue office takes about an hour and lifts stains that toothpaste cannot reach. Composite bonding. Tooth-coloured resin is shaped directly onto the tooth to close a small gap, rebuild a chipped corner or cover a stain. It is done in a single visit, needs little or no drilling, and usually lasts five to seven years before it needs refreshing. See how bonding compares to veneers.

Porcelain veneers. Thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the teeth. Veneers take two visits: one to prepare the teeth and take impressions, one to bond the finished shells. They resist staining better than bonding and commonly last ten to fifteen years. How long veneers last.

Tooth recontouring. Small amounts of enamel are smoothed to even out a pointed canine, an uneven edge or a tooth that sits slightly proud of its neighbours. It is quick, painless and often done alongside bonding.

Full-mouth restoration. Where wear, decay or an uneven bite affects most of the mouth, we combine crowns, bridges, implants and orthodontics into one plan staged over several months.

Choosing between whitening, bonding and veneers

Start with the problem, not the treatment. Even discolouration across otherwise healthy teeth usually responds to whitening, which is the least invasive and least expensive option. A single chipped or gapped tooth is normally a bonding case. Several teeth that are stained, worn and misshapen at once tend to call for veneers, because whitening will not correct shape and bonding on that many teeth will not wear evenly.

Deep grey staining from tetracycline or a root canal does not lift with whitening, so those teeth need bonding or a veneer to match the rest of the smile.

What happens at a cosmetic consultation

Dr. Schweizer examines your teeth and gums, takes photographs and x-rays, and asks what specifically bothers you about your smile. Cosmetic work only lasts if the foundation is sound, so active decay or gum disease is treated first. You leave with a written plan, the sequence of visits and the cost of each stage before anything is booked.

Looking after cosmetic work

Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive paste, floss around bonded edges and veneer margins, and keep your six-month cleanings. If you grind your teeth at night, a night guard protects the work; grinding is the most common reason veneers and bonding fail early. Avoid using your front teeth to open packaging or bite nails.
